Retaining Walls – Fence Posts and Floods

This retaining wall video shows best practices for using fences and guardrails along segmental block retaining walls. Summary – it is nearly impossible for a 75-pound retaining wall block to hold back a car, or a person pushing over a fence.

You really need to put guardrails and fences behind the wall blocks. We recommend placing the fence or guardrail about 3 feet behind the retaining wall, unless you design a way to support the fence or guardrail without compromising the wall.
